Grini - Valgets Kval

Client: Museene i Akershus

Working together with historians and educators at Museene i Akershus, we have researched and developed an immersive learning VR simulation that lets you experience life as a prisoner at Grini. Valgets Kval is designed to be both historically accurate and emotionally resonant, offering a first-person perspective on a difficult chapter in Norwegian history.

Immersive Education

Grini was the largest Nazi prison camp in Norway during the German occupation of World War II. Thousands of Norwegians were imprisoned there—many without trial—for political resistance, civil disobedience, or simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Valgets Kval invites users to step into the shoes of a prisoner and explore what daily life may have been like behind the camp’s fences.

By focusing on the human stories within the camp, the experience builds empathy and emotional understanding, helping learners not only absorb historical facts, but also connect with the people who lived through them.

Immersive Storytelling

Valgets Kval leverages immersive storytelling to make history feel immediate and personal. Rather than just reading about the past, users live it. They hear the sounds of the camp, witness the stark environments, and engage with scenarios based on real testimonies and historical documentation.

VR allows us to create a safe but impactful space for learning, where users can reflect on difficult moral choices, understand the fear and resilience of prisoners, and leave with a deeper appreciation for freedom and human dignity.

At its heart, Valgets Kval is about fostering empathy and encouraging reflection. By confronting the realities of Norway’s wartime history, the experience serves as a reminder of why protecting democracy and human rights is just as relevant today as it was then.

«Breach har vært en kompetent og profesjonell, men samtidig lydhør og fleksibel, samarbeidspartner – en nødvendighet i et innovativt og kreativt arbeid som en VR-produksjon innebærer.»
